Melissa Hunter, M.D., is a native of Charleston. She has long history of treating patients, developing younger generations of doctors, and researching various aspects of senior living.
Doctor Hunter was an associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine, Charleston.
She received her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine, and completed a residency in family medicine at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, S.C. Dr. Hunter also completed a faculty development fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.
Specializing in family care and heading her own Daniel Island Family Care practice, Doctor Hunter especially focuses on various aspects of menopause. In cooperation with Dana E. King, MD, and Jerri R. Harris, MPH, Dr. Hunter published research book "Dealing with the Psychological and Spiritual Aspects of Menopause Finding Hope in the Midlife". Her related work in the area includes research on the subject of clinical geriatrics: "Management of COPD: Acute Exacerbations and Chronic Stable Disease", by Melissa H. Hunter, MD, and Dana E. King, MD.
